Planning Your Wine Tasting “Experience”
Megan Hoberg - October 17, 2016
Wine tasting has gone beyond just tasting wines, with many Lake County wineries offering visitors a choice of experience options. Cannoli Friday at Rosa d’Oro, olive oil tasting at Chacewater Winery & Olive Mill, a stroll around the boat showroom at Boatique Winery, cave tours, pinzgauer vineyard tours and food packages offer a lot of options to experience our wine region. Here is a short list of some ideas for your next visit.
Six Sigma offers vineyard tours on their 1973 Austrian Pinzgauer. Not only will you get to see incredible vineyard views along the tour, but you you’ll probably catch a glimpse or two of the cattle, sheep, and pigs that they raise on the ranch. Six Sigma has 50 acres of planted vineyards on the property, but their entire ranch is 4,300 acres. The tour includes a stop in the Diamond Mine Vineyard where you’ll have a chance to enjoy some wine, sweeping vineyard views, and the chance to take home a Lake County Diamond! The tour concludes at the tasting room where you’ll enjoy a flight of wines.
Public tours are available at 10:00 and 12:00 on Saturdays and they are $10 per person (wine tasting included). You may also schedule a private group tour for up to 10 people for $125.
Brassfield offers two Farm to Bottle Tours that are a unique opportunity to taste and explore handcrafted, 100% estate-grown wines. The Farm to Bottle Tour with Wine & Cheese includes a behind the scenes look at their wine caves, vineyards, and concludes with a wine and local artisan cheese pairing. They also offer a Farm to Bottle Tour with a Picnic that includes a guided tour, a sampling of five wines, and a generously filled picnic basket for you to enjoy.
Both experiences are $50 a person and require advanced reservations.
Langtry offers options for both small and large groups. They’re smaller group options include the Tephra Ridge Vineyard Tour and A Taste of History Tour. The Tephra Tour will take you to their high elevation Tephra Ridge Vineyard where you’ll learn about the Bordeaux grape varieties that grow in the area and you’ll enjoy a gourmet box lunch with wine before returning to the tasting room to experience a flight of their current releases.
The Taste of History Tour includes a tour of the former home of famed actress, Lillie Langtry. You’ll also enjoy a private reserve tasting hosted in the Langtry mansion accompanied by artisanal meats and cheeses. A hand-selected library wine will also be served with your tasting.
Larger groups may opt to enjoy a winery tour and a catered lunch under the wisteria covered arbor.
